September 2021
6th September 2021 (Monday, Hétfő)
My first visit of the month was worthwhile as I recorded 11 butterfly species: Grayling, False Grayling, Woodland Grayling, Great Banded Grayling, Silver-spotted Skipper, Silver-washed Fritillary, Silver-studded Blue (female), Common Blue (male), Small Heath, Sooty Copper (old and new), and Lesser Fiery Copper (at least 3 males in The Bowl).
Being a little 'cheeky', I'm adding something that was not strictly found at the Small Quarry, but was found very nearby. A few weeks ago, my friend Marcell Kárpáti found an adult female Saga pedo on the grassland near to St. Anna Lake. Subsequent searches of that area revealed nothing. However, on this day (6th September 2021) Marcell and his friend Csaba Gáspár, explored a grassy and rocky area alongside the road that leads to the factory complex, and discovered another adult female there. This means that, although these amazingly large bush-crickets were not found at the Small Quarry, the SQ is quite close to both of those locations. Therefore, due to rarity, I have taken the decision to include a photo gallery of the second sighting here. Maybe it will encourage the species to investigate our little site !
