A brief introduction to the Small Quarry
We first discovered the Small Quarry in the summer of 2006, when we were returning from a nature study walk to the Pipis-hegy airfield and the St Anna Lake. Although we paid occasional visits to the site during 2007, we didn't realise its full potential until the Spring of 2008. This was when we discovered that the site hosts at least 13 species of reptiles and amphibians. Considering its dimensions - just 100 metres by 200 metres, the place is amazing! In fact, we think of it more as a nature gold mine, rather than just a disused andesite mine.
A bánya rövid bemutatása

What is SSSI ?
Well, in Great Britain, SSSI is the abbreviation for 'Site of Special Scientific Interest', a designation awarded to sites that have rare species, or are quite simply, outstanding natural habitats. The Small Quarry 'SSSI' designation is not official ..... it's just me making the point that the 'SQ' has so many amazing species, many of which are rare in Great Britain, that it deserves this designation, or similar.
We hope you enjoy your visit to the Small Quarry SSSI site, and seeing the images of the wealth of wildlife to be found there.

Mesék a bányáról - Egy kicsi, de a természetbarátok számára annál érdekesebb terület
