March 2024
4th March 2024 - (Monday, Hétfő)
A late afternoon visit ... sunny, but with a cool breeze. The top channel is still in the 'correct' position, but not sure that much of the recent rainwater went inside. Three white patches near the edge of the water may point to a Grey Heron checking the site. In The Bowl, some Fire-bellied Toads and Common Spadefoot Toads were calling from the reedbed area, and a single Green Tree Frog called from Rock Bath 1 ... until I arrived there !! A male Brimstone butterfly was seen, and a rather battered Peacock butterfly was photographed. Some Blackbirds made quite a noise as I walked through the site.
20th March 2024 - (Wednesday, Szerda)
Sunny, but with a cool wind. Common Spadefoot Toads were still croaking underwater, and I saw a least one Fire-bellied Toad. There appeared to be a few clumps of spawn. Insects recorded were: Peacock butterfly, Common Winter Damselfly, several Whirligig Beetles, Pond Skater (Gerris sp.), and probably 2 species of Bee-fly. Shrubs in leaf were Wild Privet and Dog Rose. Shrubs/trees in flower were Blackthorn, Crab Apple, and Almond. A juvenile Green Lizard was photographed.
26th March 2024 - (Tuesday, Kedd)
As usual, it seems, my visit had sunshine with a strong, cold wind. Even so, I saw one white butterfly (species undetermined), and three female Green Lizards were sunning themselves in sheltered places. I heard one Fire-bellied Toad calling softly within the reedbed, and saw some amphibian movement in various places, but I wasn't able to actually see those involved. One such movement occurred in Rock Bath 1. A Great Tit flew into a nearby Dog Rose bush with a large moustache of nesting material. Unfortunately, he or she couldn't be photographed due to too many branches obstructing my view.
