June 2022
3rd June 2022 - (Friday, Péntek)
Another hot and dry afternoon visit. Despite the drought, some flowering plants are being positive, but there are not enough of them on show to bring in the numbers of butterflies we used to know. Species recorded: Hungarian Skipper, Small Skipper, Small Heath, Painted Lady, Twin-spot Fritillary, and a type of Clouded Yellow = 6 species.
14th June 2022 - Tuesday, Kedd)
As usual, these days, hot and sunny, and the SQ is completely dry (as is St. Anna Lake!). Butterflies recorded: Reverdin's Blue (male), Silver-studded Blue, Common Blue (female), Hungarian Skipper, Marbled White (about 8 seen), Small Skipper, Small White, Sloe Hairstreak (about 6 seen), Heath Fritillary (did not stop for photos!) = 9 species. Several Orthopteran species were in evidence, and I managed to photograph the nymphs of: Long-winged Conehead, Speckled Bush-cricket, Striped Bush-cricket (female), and Great Green Bush-cricket (male). A Marsh Harrier circled above the site. As I was about to leave I found a dead male Stag Beetle .... its 'insides' having been cleaned out by ants. During my walk I cut back the encroaching Bramble and Dog Rose from the pathways.
