June 2019 - part 2
30th June 2019 - (Sunday, Vasárnap )
This was my first visit since 13th June, although Teréz has been visiting quite regularly during that period. Yet another very hot and sunny day, and the Coffee Pool is almost cut off now that the water has receded. As usual, we are hoping for some big thunderstorms to deliver substantial rainfall. Many of the Common Spadefoot Toads I saw are thumb-sized, and many have four legs. Therefore, they will soon be able to leave the water. Many damselflies were seen, mainly Azure and 'the greens' (Lestes sp). Also seen were a male Broad-bodied Chaser, three or four Ruddy Darters, plus two mystery dragonflies. One of them 'could have been' a Clubtail or Pincertail (but did not land), and the other could possibly have been a Keeled Skimmer. Many butterflies were in evidence: Scarce Swallowtail, Great Banded Grayling, Speckled Wood, Heath Fritillary (several), Marbled White (several), Wood White, Small White, Eastern Pale Clouded Yellow, Small Heath, Small Skipper, Pearly Heath, Meadow Brown, Reverdin's Blue, Silver-studded Blue, Silver-washed Fritillary (males), Eastern Bath White, Green-veined White, and Blue-spot Hairstreak = 18 species.
