January 2023
17th January 2023 - (Tuesday, Kedd)
These photographs were taken by Teréz Udvarhelyi. She had visited the SQ after the recent heavy rainfall. Upon arrival, she had the lovely surprise that our channel had been completely cleared of road debris .. a job I had been dreading. The work had been done by our 'local friends'. A big thank you to them for this valuable assistance.

There was a massive storm overnight, and the Gyöngyös patak and all other local streams had torrents of brown, surging water. The SQ waterfall was working well. We try not to get too excited though, as it will not take long for the level to drop again, unless we have regular downpours during the early Spring. This used to be an ideal place for the 9 recorded amphibian species to breed, but it seems that climate change has had a detrimental impact. We have had hardly any snow this winter, whereas we often had up to 1 metre over ten years ago.
The following images were taken by Teréz on the same afternoon.

Although lots of water has gone into The Bowl, we are still, it seems, having a slight battle with our old two-legged adversary. This is in addition to the usual drainage problem, but we hope that enough water will remain for amphibian breeding in Spring 2023.
