February 2024
6th February 2024 - (Tuesday, Kedd)
As I walked into the site, I paused to look down on the SQ HQ ....just in time to see a Fox running from the water's edge, across 'the lawn' and into the bushes at the base of the waterfall. It looked a light straw colour with a streaked tail. No time for a photo ! A reasonable amount of water was in The Bowl, with some ice hanging on around the shady edges. The water is clear, but I didn't see any signs of amphibian life. Our friends have made sure that the top channel is open for any rain that falls.
16th February 2024 - (Friday, Péntek)
No wildlife for the list, but there is still quite a good amount of water in The Bowl. The top channel is still in a good configuration for when rain comes.
28th February 2024 - (Wednesday, Szerda)
A late afternoon visit, arriving at about 1600. It was sunny, but with a cold easterly wind. At first I didn't see or hear any amphibians, but as I walked near the reedbed I suddenly heard a few Fire-bellied Toads 'piping', and several Common Spadefoot Toads 'clucking' underwater. No chance to see any of them ... but I'll return when the Sun is overhead. Between the airfield and the SQ I photographed a male Bullfinch, and an adult Roe Deer crossed the road in front of me as I drove down the hill.
