Today saw the welcome return of Rock Buntings to the SQ. A small flock was flying from bush to bush and exploring the sun-kissed rock walls. The last record was on 4th January 2015, when they were hopping about amongst the snow. A pair of Wren were spotted preening in a Dog Rose bush after bathing in the small amount of water in Rock Bath 2. Rock Bath 1 also contained some water, and the green Yellow Flag Iris leaves showed up well against the other dead plant stems.

Just a quick visit to check the site. Blue sky and sunshine, but a cold wind was blowing across the area. A couple of Blue Tit were seen, and a few Bullfinches were heard as they flew over the site. The only insect seen was a wasp (unidentified) as it hunted among the grass stems.
