January 2018
2nd January 2018 - (Tuesday, Kedd)
My first visit of 2018. I wasn't there long, but I was able to record that the recent rain had brought a little more water into the site. This was partly because our top irrigation channel was still in 'our' configuration. The higher temperatures meant that all the water was ice free. The only wildlife seen was a flock of about 12 Fieldfare, but they were too far away for photographs.
7th January 2018 - (Sunday, Vasárnap)
A short visit on Sunday afternoon to check the site. There were signs of water seepage down the airfield road, but the water in The Bowl had started to recede. The reedbed area is still looking good though, as are Rock Baths 1 and 2. Again, things were very quiet at the SQ with no birdlife recorded.
15th January 2018 - (Monday, Hétfő)
Another short visit to see what the SQ looked like following the snowfall at the weekend. Quite picturesque, but no moving life to be seen. Something had been walking most of the pathways, however, including around the top rim of the site. Are these Fox footprints, I wonder?
17th January 2018 - (Wednesday, Szerda)
Photos from Teréz's short visit this morning. We had more snow yesterday, and she found quite a lot of animal footprints in the snow, including Roe Deer and Brown Hare, but as for the others .... we're not sure if we have cat, dog, or Fox ..... or all three!
22nd January 2018 - (Monday, Hétfő)
A mid-afternoon visit to check the site after the quite heavy snowfall on Sunday.
29th January 2018 - (Monday, Hétfő)
A brief morning visit to check the site. The recent warmer temperatures had melted most of the snow. Only the areas that catch little or no sun had snow remaining. Rock Bath 1 was mostly covered in grey ice. Meltwater was flowing down the airfield road, passing through our channel, and fuelling a small waterfall. Many deer droppings were seen on the pathways, and a Sparrowhawk (Karvaly) flew over the site.
