Döntően kárpát‐medencei elterjedésű faj, melyet magyar lepkészek fedeztek fel és írtak le. A faj Gozmány László nagy magyar zoológus, lepidopterológus, az MTM Lepkegyűjteménye akkori kurátora nevét viseli.
The overwhelming majority of the known populations of the species occur inside the Carpathian basin. It was discovered by Hungarian lepidopterists and described by Hungarian experts who dedicated the species to László Gozmány, the world‐famous lepidopterist and zoologist, former curator of the Lepidoptera collection of the HNHM. The holotype of the species was collected by Dr Gozmány and preserved in the HNHM.
NOTE: these caterpillars had previously been identified as those of the Striped Lychnis moth (Cucullia lychnitis - Szálmasárga csuklyásbagoly), but the correct identification has kindly been supplied by Mr Ferenc Buschmann.
