October 2022
7th October 2022 - (Friday, Péntek)
The local area had some substantial rainfall during the last three weeks, which seemed so unusual after so many weeks of drought. Even so, I was most surprised to see the Coffee Pool quite full, and a sheet of water extending from it to the Reedbed. Rock Bath 1 also had a good amount of water in it. The biggest surprise for me was seeing a Fire-bellied Toad resting on the surface of the Coffee Pool, enjoying the afternoon sunshine. At least 6 Common Darters were hunting above the 'new water', including a linked pair intent on egg-laying. No butterflies were seen, despite the good range of plants still in flower. At a nearby site on the way to the factory, I recorded a female Silver-washed Fritillary, and a Brimstone. A baby Green Lizard quickly disappeared in grassy cover.
