February 2023
25th February 2023 - (Saturday, Szombat)
Whilst on a visit to the SQ, Teréz, Franci, and Robika discovered a dead deer on the pathway adjacent to Rock Baths 2 and 3. By the size of the corpse, it was almost certainly a female Red Deer (Szarvas). Cause of death was unknown as there was no visible sign of injury. I wondered if the deer had fallen from the top rim of the site and perhaps moved a little way from the landing point before succumbing to its injuries.
The photograph of the body was taken by Teréz, and I've added an identification image which, I think, confirms that it was indeed a Red Deer. It certainly didn't have the distinctive white 'rear end' that is found on Roe Deer. The shape of head and ears also point to it being a 'Red'.

28th February 2023 - (Tuesday, Kedd)
I only paid a short visit to the SQ as there was a really icy wind blowing across the area. The water had, once again, receded as it always does. Too early for amphibians yet, but by the time they arrive to breed, there will be little or no water available.
I walked round to the 'deer area' to find that the corpse had gone. All I found were tufts of fur, most at the 'scene of the crime', and a little beside the reedbed. Maybe whoever removed the body dragged it that way and through the reedbed.
