December 2015
4th December 2015 - (Friday - Péntek)
Today, Teréz and I concentrated on the 'weird and wonderful' ... looking for, and photographing mosses, lichens, and liverworts at the Small Quarry, with the optimistic aim of trying to identify them ! These groups are often overlooked as there are lots of more spectacular wildlife species to study, but, as you can see from this album, the structure and texture of many species are surprisingly complex and beautiful. Now for the hard part ... identifying them ! If anyone can assist, please do !
29th December 2015 - (Tuesday - Kedd)
A visit by Teréz and Robika. Teréz brought her new camera with her, but didn't have long to test it as Robika decided to test the thickness of the ice topping Rock Bath 1. This experiment ended in disaster, with the result that the photo mission had to be aborted !
30th December 2015 - (Wednesday - Szerda)
Although a nice sunny morning for the visit, it felt terribly cold, and an icy wind blew across the site. I'd hoped that a few winter visitor birds might appear inside the SQ, but only a Great Tit and a 'mystery bird in the reedbed' obliged. The latter was possibly the Wren that Teréz had observed a few days ago. A few Fieldfare flew over the site, calling, and the delicate notes of overflying Bullfinches were also heard. Not too much water remained at the site, and ice topped all of it.
