January 2024
9th January 2024 - (Tuesday, Kedd)
A short visit to check the site for the first time in 2024. The water level in The Bowl was still pretty good, and someone (presumably our friends from the nearby house) had worked hard to re-configure the top channel so that water could flow into the site again. It's good having allies! Judging by the amount of footprints there had been much deer activity inside the site, including Red Deer. Near the SQ I saw some Fieldfare and Bullfinches. Most of the reedbed had been knocked down by a combination of wind, rain, and frost.
24th January 2024 - (Wednesday, Szerda)
A short visit on a rather cold day. Ice covered The Bowl, and some residual snow left another distinctive pattern on the ice. Rock Bath 1 had quite a lot of ice-covered water, as did the other two Rock Baths. The Reed and Reedmace stems in The Bowl have been knocked down by a combination of rain, wind, snow, and frost. A male Blackbird was seen inside the site, some Fieldfare and a Jay were heard. Two Ravens called as they circled overhead. There are large, ice patches on the road, and our top channel is still in a 'favourable' configuration !
